As Peregrine the
Persian cat reclined upon his bed
he opened up an eye
and gave a yawn;
the clock upon the
wall said ten, he stretched himself and said:
"Perhaps I'll take
a walk out on the lawn."
Another hour passed
as he debated with himself
on how to leave the
room and go outside;
to use the cat door
made for him - or jump up on that shelf
and pounce out
through the window open wide.
His buccaneering
spirit drew his head up from the rug,
to calculate how
far he'd have to leap;
but mathematics
always sent his brain into a fug,
and as he thought,
he drifted off to sleep.
Another hour passed
then something woke him with a start,
a bowl of milk put
down for him to lap;
Relieved, he
breathed a sigh to still the beating of his heart,
Then drifted off
into a little nap.
He dreamed of
pouncing on some little unsuspecting mouse,
And playing games
to cause malicious pain;
He woke and looked
around but all was quiet in the house,
So drifted off to
slumber once again.
Another hour
passed, the shadows lengthened in the room,
He had a thought of
toys, perhaps hi-jinx?
But at this hour of
day he always had a little groom,
So licked himself,
and then had forty winks.
He woke and it was
dark, there was no time to go and play,
Outside was full of
monsters, things that bite;
He'd do all that
tomorrow, 'twas another brand new day,
But now was time
for beauty sleep - Good Night!
