CHRYSALIS

A poem about a girl coming of age using a butterfly metaphor

In my cocoon

Rotating, gyrating, mutating

Shall my bright wings stretch and soar

Rainbow for the poet's awe

Caught in verse for evermore?

In my cocoon

Folding, molding, holding

Hopes that beauty waits for me

Masterpiece, the world to see

Could this marvel really be?

In my cocoon

Shredding, dreading, heading

Into unknown skies of blue

Could this miracle be true

Can I people's spirits woo?

In my cocoon

Burning, churning, turning

Soldered into God's creation

Made for dreamer's observation

Star-crossed lover's adoration?

In my cocoon

Growing, flowing, knowing

Time is now for my selection

Love and beauty's resurrection

Fly away in life's perfection!
