MIDNIGHT in the MUSEUM

Souls of Pharaohs past I lay, anubis in your sight

Rameses, my King, I worship thee!

Seti, Menes, Tut, my Lords, I pray you peaceful rest

Shine the light of Ra down over me

Take my life as sacrifice to speed your journey’s end

Send your scarabs with their one command

Eat my Earthly flesh that I might board your Coptic craft

Ride the seas to sit at Ptah’s right hand.

Fly with me, oh mighty Ibis, carry me to Thebes

Horus watch me in my final flight

Let me drink from Mother Nile and sooth my arid throat

Ammon guide me as I walk the night

Lay me not in desert sand, entomb me with my Gods

Evermore to live in legend’s verse

Tannus use your obelisk to put out these sad eyes

Live in me as everlasting curse.

Strange this carpet I recline on, warm and soft and red

Can it be the Goddess Isis' womb?

Shall I lay and fold my arms and lie upon my back

Mayhap she will build for me a tomb

Bless your lover, Cleopatra, take my ruby soul

Hold your sacred asp upon my breast

Let us rule from pyramid upon the Gaza plain

Ever roam and never, ever rest.
