 REDDIT ME:

Haikus by Australian poet Graeme King - funny poems, sad poems, serious poems and romantic poems. Poems for children, nature poems and environment poems, flash poetry, fantasy poems, funny limericks and more ©kingpoetry2007.

HAIKUS

Haikus are Japanese poems, consisting of three lines, with 5 syllables, then 7 syllables, then 5 syllables. A title is considered unnecessary. Writing Haikus is like surfing, I reckon, you are always looking for the "perfect wave." The first two are "senryus" as true haikus describe nature.

See also my funny haikus in comic strip form I call them HAIKARTOONS.

If a wish comes true

Who do you thank for this feat?

Yourself for wishing.

The Heartbreak Hotel

May its register stay blank

Till my next visit.

This is a series of related haikus:

Springbok, gnu, gazelle

Slaking their thirst in dawn’s light

Bent low to water

African jungle

King of Beasts prowls on his search

Hungry for fresh meat

Instant death stalking

Uncertainty grips the herd

Nervous hooves shuffle

Lion creeps closer

Saliva dripping from fangs

Anticipation

Sentinel bird shrieks

All flee at the same instant

Stampede on the Veldt.

Single Haikus

Leaves drift down like boats

on a to and fro sea

Winter approaches.

The black panther waits

unseen in leafy shadows

Small faun draws nearer.

This is a series of haikus telling a story:

The scream of sirens

Another bad news story

Big city goes on

Morning rush for train

Sad faces never smiling

Why do they worry?

Daily toil for all

Lunchtime gossip backstabbing

Then return to work

Home to young faces

No time for play...must work yet

Someone has to earn

Children grow quickly

Independence beckons

Babies leave the nest

Lie in bed alone

Thinking of love now long dead

Was it all for naught?

Ambulance turns up

Red lights flashing early morn

Wasted life is sin.
