LOVE'S LABOURS

A Herculean love poem in Rhupunt form.

Shall I catch the moon and wrap it pretty with a bow?

Leave it near your pillow, would that be enough to show

Worthy of your love am I, you cannot answer “no”

Banishing me to a cobwebbed cell.

Hercules had labors twelve, I beg: command me more!

Say to me your fondest wish, I’ll lay it at your door,

Basking in your smile would repay any epic chore

Silence only banishment to hell.

Ask me for a melody, I’ll sing the sweetest tune,

Beg a charm, I’ll find a fairy’s mystic, magic rune,

Mention hunger, I will feed you rainbows with a spoon,

Leave me and my soul I’ll surely sell.

Speak your heart’s desire, unicorns or diamonds bright,

Care for you a hero, winning duels with evil knight?

Arms to hold you till you wake in morning’s early light,

Let my kiss your darkest dreams dispel.

Can you understand this pledge to make your life complete?

You are Queen and I am slave, my heart now obsolete,

Promised for all time, I throw myself down at your feet,

Hoping in your love I may excel.
